San Elijo Hills is governed by a Community Association charged with planning special events and activities for residents; maintaining common areas; and enforcing the community's Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions. The Association is governed by five board members and supported by representatives from each of the community's neighborhoods.
Since the first residents moved in during January 2001, the San Elijo Hills Community Association has grown rapidly to meet the needs of its members by adding several volunteer committees to its governance.
- The Technology Committee explores ways to enhance the lives of residents by reviewing innovations in technology and communication.
- The Architectural Review Committee works to ensure that homeowner improvement projects support the overall design envisioned for the community.
- The Golf Committee organizes the San Elijo Hills Golf Outing, a fundraising event supporting the San Elijo Hills Foundation.
- The Events Committee plans special events for homeowners and their families. Some of the annual events sponsored by the Community Association are the Concert in the Square, Oktoberfest, Tree Lighting, Independence Day Celebration and Easter Egg Hunt.
The Association also retains a Community Director to facilitate
communication amongst members. Teresa DeWitt, the current Community
Director, is responsible for publishing the community newsletter, maintaining
the Community Network, p lanning community-wide special events, and helping homeowners
form organizations. She works closely with community volunteers and sits on a
number of the Association's committees.
The San Elijo Hills Community Association was honored as Homeowner Association of the Year in 2003 by the San Diego Chapter of the Community Associations Institute.
